Use a damp cloth and mild cleaner. Work from the frame to the wheels. Use a separate brush and rag for the greasy drivetrain.
Keep water gentle. Avoid pressure washers and spraying into bearings, headset seals, or suspension parts. Keep cleaners and oil off braking surfaces.
Dry and inspect. Wipe the frame and components. Look for damage that dirt may have hidden. If you find a crack or suspect crash damage, stop riding and arrange an inspection.
If your Diverge has Future Shock, leave it assembled. Cleaning is not a reason to loosen the headset or suspension hardware.
Check your chain treatment. For a waxed chain, follow the wax maker’s cleaning and reapplication process. Don’t add oil over wax.
For an oil-lubricated chain, remove the grime. Wipe with a rag. For a dirty chain, use a bike chain cleaner and compatible degreaser following their directions. Keep fingers clear of moving gears.
Let it dry, then lubricate. Apply bicycle chain lube to the rollers, following the product’s directions and dwell time. Wipe excess off the outside with a clean rag.
Use a drip bottle away from rotors and pads. Persistent skipping or stiff links need diagnosis; more lubricant won’t repair worn or damaged parts.
Tires & wheels. Look for cuts, bulges, exposed casing, and loose or broken spokes. Confirm wheels are secured according to their axle instructions. Check pressure with a gauge; respect both tire and rim limits. No universal PSI fits every setup.
Brakes. With both wheels installed, push the bike and apply each brake separately. Each should stop it firmly before the lever reaches the bar. Weak braking, leaks, or a sudden change in feel need attention before a ride.
Controls & gears. Check for loose bars or saddle, then test shifting while pedaling gently. Stop for slipping, grinding, or a chain trying to shift into the spokes. Identify the drivetrain before adjusting it.
Carry the basics. Take an inflation device, appropriate flat-repair supplies, and a multitool. Charge electronic shifting if fitted.
Don’t “tighten everything.” Use the exact component instructions and a suitable torque wrench for adjustments. Never guess a carbon-part torque setting.
Your GRX 2× setup is recorded; the exact model and upgraded cassette range still need checking. The shifting guide links directly to Shimano’s adjustment diagrams. Keep the general upkeep notes handy between repairs.
